called Alber, the "Fool’s guard" In the Germans schools (apparently since it was thought foolish to rely only on defense), depending on placement of the blade, to the Italian’s this was known as the Iron Door (Porta di ferro piana terrena) --either half, right or middle, or when on the left it may have been also known as a Boar’s Tooth guard (in the sense of thrusting up), German schools also sometimes called it Eiserne Pforte ("iron gate") or Iron Door (Die yszni Port)
